Mexico, MO is getting some press this week in the form of a joint announcement by Reliv International and Soy Labs.

With the help of the Missouri Plant Science Center here in Mexico, MO, they are launching a soy powder under the trademark “LunaRich”

Reliv is a pretty major player in the world of nutritional supplements, although you won’t find their products on the store shelves. They are distributed by independent marketers (there’s actually several individuals in Mexico, MO who sell these products). They are promoting a major product launch at the Reliv National Convention on Feb. 17 that will feature this new “LunaRich” soy powder.

What exactly is LunaRich? From the press release: LunaRich is a whole soy powder containing five to ten times more lunasin than the industry standard. And it is the first product to come out of the joint biotechnology partnership that Reliv, Soy Labs and the MPSC formed last August.

Certainly bad timing, but according to President Frank Cordie it’s due to the seasonal slow-down and was expected by all. The brick manufacturer will take a look-and-see approach, hoping that demand picks up in the near future. In the meantime, the Mexico, MO brick plant has inventory on-hand to fill current orders.

The ACT test takes place on December 10, 2011. The standard test usually costs students about $35.

Tina Woolsey, Superintendent for Mexico Public Schools since 2007, announced her resignation to the school board Tuesday night. Woolsey says that her resignation date of June 30, 2012 is to allow the board ample time to find her replacement.

“It has been a joy to work with the people of the school system and the community,” Woolsey said.

Woolsey has had a somewhat contentious relationship with the school board over the last few years, butting heads with board members such as Dr. Elwood Rice over a variety of financial and building issues — most recently the proposal to convert the elementary schools into grade centers. However, under her leadership, Woolsey oversaw the passage of a major $8 million bond issue in 2009 for energy efficiency upgrades as well as the recent vote by patrons for a waiver of Proposition C.

Woolsey plans to spend some time traveling and finish up her doctoral work.
